Iceland: Day 5 - Eldborghraun

June 29, 2004

After Reykjavik, we headed north and passed once again through the tunnel at Akranes and on to the Snæfellsnes peninsula. The landscape here is very beautiful and it has been called Iceland en miniature, because most of the sights of the country are also to be found here. One of the common sights in Iceland are the huge expanses of overgrown rock... the lava fields ("rhaun").

Driving through the tunnel by Arnarstapi.

Sheep finding shelter among the rocks by the side of the road.

Volcanos and snow covered mountains all in one landscape.

Our clio rental car with the Snæfellsnes peninsula as the backdrop.

Fields of hay along the road.
