Iceland: Day 5 - Rif and Grundarfjörður

June 29, 2004

Along the north shore of the Snæfellsnes peninsula we came to Rif,a main fishing ports in these parts. One of Iceland´s largest breeding colonies of Artic Terns is in the village and the townspeople have kindly erected a wonderful sign explaining all the sea birds for tourists. Of course they put the sign right next to the field of nesting terns so we treated the locals to a good laugh trying to get from the car to the sign without being attacked by the terns!

The Snæfellsjökull provides lots of water run off which make beautiful waterfalls cascading over the cliffs.

Our first campsite in Iceland... overlooking Grundarfjörður and the Snæfellsjökull.
