One of our sponsored wedding gifts was 2 visits to the famous Blue Lagoon of Iceland in Reykjavik from Pierre and Louise Rioux (Rubby's uncle and aunt). We took the liberty of spending one of those visits at the Mývatn Nature Baths instead, being that the area was so beautiful and that this attraction had only opened a few days before.
Opened on June 30th , Mývatn Nature Baths is a spa that includes a 4000 m2 geothermal bathing pool with water drawn from depths of up to 2,500 metres and maintained at a constant temperature of 38-41ºC. (ok, those 41ºC spots were a little TOO hot!) In the summer, the pool is open officially until midnight although we witnessed people there even later.
Containing a unique blend of minerals, silicates and geothermal micro-organisms, the warm, the soothing waters of Mývatn Nature Baths benefit both skin and spirit alike.
While we were there, a little local boy swam up to us wondering if we were doing a photo shoot (since the spa wasn't described in any guidebooks, we were probably some of the first tourists to visit!). When he found out we were from Canada, he asked if it was really cold there. !?
Thanks Pierre and Louise for an absolutely unforgettable experience!
The view from the Nature Baths overlooking the Mývatn area is absolutely spectacular.
Rubby, you're a little overdressed! Come on in!
